 About the Board of Governors

The Danesfield School Board of Governors is made up of parents, teachers and people from the local community who are committed to the promotion of high standards of educational achievement.

They are best thought of as trustees for the performance of the school and critical friends to the school's senior management team.  Whilst the governing body are responsible for the schools strategic direction, policy and overall management, the day-to-day  management of the school rests firmly with the headteacher and the school staff.

There are  six key committees focusing on the following operational activities for the school.  These committees are:-

  • Admissions - The Governors' Admissions Committee is the legal admissions authority for the school and the body which sets a policy for admissions across the school. We have created a policy which, whilst following statuary guidelines, aims to serve all sections of our community and maintain the aims of the Danesfield Vision 2010. For Reception intake we are part of the Buckinhamshire Coordinated Scheme, and whilst this ensures the Government's aim for parental choice, it still follows the criteria in our policy and final decisions remain with the Committee.
  • Communications - It aims to support and encourage effective internal and external communication and assist in the coordination of clear and consistent messages that are easily understood by all recipients.
  • Curriculum - Danesfield School is committed to provide the best possible education for every child at Danesfield School. The Curriculum Committee work closely with the Head teacher and Staff in meeting this objective. The Curriculum Committee is responsible for the strategic direction and monitoring of the curriculum, achievement and standards, pupil progress and pupil support.

    1. We will visit the school in order to monitor relevant school policies in practice and we will regularly review these school policies.
    2. We will become informed about relevant government education policy changes and new initiatives and consider their role in our school’s development.
    3. We are committed to update, review and evaluate curriculum areas of the Danesfield Strategic Vision for 2010.
    4. We will enable clear comprehensible communication between governors and the wider school community on curriculum matters in order to enhance the reputation of the school.
    5. We have designated governors who work in the key areas such as Numeracy, Literacy and Special Educational Needs.

  • Estate Management - The Estates Committee meets to discuss the strategic management and development of the school's land and buildings. We report on current, proposed and completed building and refurbishment projects.

We monitor and comment on any external factors which may affect the School's land and buildings such as planning applications and Health and Safety guidelines. We make recommendations to the Finance Committee on any proposed land and building projects and give estimated costings for these. We aim to agree a long term planned maintenance programme and monitor its implementation and we appoint estates related professional advisors to act on behalf of the school. In addition to presenting to the main governing body on any proposed new building or refurbishment projects we also work with professionals to review the design and monitor the planning and construction process which also involves monitoring variations to the budget and working closely with the Finance Committee on any budgetary changes.

  • Finance - The Finance Committee is looking to maximise the financial resources available to Danesfield to help the school realise its ambitions.

Specifically the Committee is charged with the oversight of the school's financial management and finding ways to finance the school's development plan including expansion and upgrade of the school's infrastructure.
  • Personnel - The most important element of a good school is its staff. The Personnel Committee meets to ensure that we have a teacher / assistant / pupil ratio that enables us to achieve the strategic objectives set out in the Danesfield Vision 2010 within budgetery limits. The Governing Body are the legal employers and not only do we strive to ensure Danesfield employs the best staff possible, but we also follow best employment practice to ensure that we are a exemplar employer, thus retaining the quality staff we have.

In addition to these committees individual governors have specific responsibilities covering:-

  • Child Protection
  • Health, Safety and Security
  • Pay Review
  • SEN
